In Acts 20:29 Paul warns the pastors in Ephesus, "I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them." This was true for the pastors in Ephesus. This was true for Titus in his ministry in Crete and this is true for every church thereafter. We are in a spiritual war for truth, and we are always in danger of potential deception. Therefore, we must be a people who not only cling to truth, but we must be a people who are able to recognize enemies of truth. In Titus chapter 1, Paul instructs Titus to both recognize and rebuke dangerous but common strands of false teaching.
